Kelso Christy & Poco Dinero practicing the Cattle Trial Phase
REGION 2 Director — Glynna Hoekstra
And we’re off!!!
The 2025 show season is in full swing here in Region 2. El Campeon Farms in Thousand Oaks just completed the first of their Buckle Series on a beautiful southern California weekend. The show was filled through Masters Level, and included several Youth members throughout the Levels. Arizona WEC has held their first show of the season at Unforgiven Ranch, and the Wine Country Classic show in Santa Clarita, CA was a grand time! Utah WE has been very busy with both shows and clinics. Mary Young returned to LoCal to join Kathleen Elliott in a clinic and schooling show, and in the San Diego area, Rancho Descanso hosted an Introduction to Working Equitation clinic which was attended by seven brand new WE enthusiasts, including four Youth riders! All four Youth competed in the Schooling Show the next day, earning excellent scores for their first time out. We are encouraged by the number of Youth we see at these events, truly a great future for USAWE. The cattle trial is gaining momentum, with several clinics and even a few shows offering it. Make sure to seek out opportunities to participate in the foundation of Working Equitation – cattle!

Looking ahead, Bay Area Working Equitation (BAWE) has a two show series scheduled for May and June, as well as a fun Cattle Clinic. Wine Country Classic is hosting a show in Santa Clarita, sure to be a hit. There are several clinics scheduled in Northern California, including Santa Rosa, as well as in Northern Nevada at Broken Bit Ranch. Utah WE has more shows and clinics on the calendar as well.
Region 2 – we have many opportunities to try / learn / improve / show / have FUN this year with Working Equitation. Send any events you’d like highlighted to me at R2Director@usawe.org. We can include in this newsletter and/or on social media. Also, send photos with names of the riders and horses so we can showcase our awesome members doing what they love.
Happy Spring everyone! Get out and enjoy it!
